Online Marketing Strategies for StartUps and Established Businesses

The web has become an integral part of a common man’s life. The number of devices connected to the internet has exceeded the population of the entire globe. That proves only one thing that each individual user uses more than one device to connect to the web. An average individual uses a computer or a phone to access his/her beloved networking site every few minutes. With the craze for social networking and staying updated with the current affairs, we all are plugged into the internet.

Businesses understood the potential of the web and took over to the social media along with building their own websites. As time flew, they became aware of their brand’s value on the internet and started protecting the identity using various methods. Some of them includes, getting the desired usernames (brand names) as a vanity URL on social media websites and protecting brand theft by getting all the top level domains (TLDs). But are these strategies good for startups and established businesses? It can’t be! Because of the fact that a startup will have a different approach as compared to an established businesses. So what are the best online marketing strategies for both of these businesses. Let us find out.

Online Marketing Strategies for Established Businesses

For established businesses, there is very little to do on a new social media. For instance, if a company gets a new profile on a social media website, all they have to do is ask their followers on other social networks to follow them on the new social media. The engagement of users increases on social media websites, giving exposure to the business as well as the new social medium.

Well online marketing strategies for established businesses is quite straight forward and hassle free. They just have to maintain their public relations with all the social media available and capture the mind of their customers.

Online Marketing Strategies for StartUps

Online marketing strategies for startups is kind of complex as compared to established businesses. Established businesses already have their name in the market and hence they can gather a crowd from where they stand. This is not the case for startups. They have to build a foundation for themselves first and grow eventually. It’s like raising a baby.

The first step for any brand to establish itself is to get a name. Once the name has been decided, the online branding starts eventually. Getting the top level domains and vanity URLs for social media websites should be the top most priority so that you don’t attract any lawsuit later in your business.

Many companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc. have a dedicated team set up to register domains that are related to their businesses. But as a startup, you don’t need to sweat it. Facebook started as thefacebook.com, Dropbox was getdropbox.com and today they have almost every possible domain related to their business. (Facebook even has fb.com)

Although branding and promotion is important but what matters the most is your products. If you could give the best products to your users, a brand is emerged by the quality it offers.

One last thing both startups and established businesses should take care of while implementing online marketing strategies is that they should not take decisions in haste. If you believe that your business will grow exponentially book the TLDs like .com, .net, .org, .biz, etc.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) the organization for domain registry has been handing out new domain extensions lately. The below shows an excerpt from the official website.

The four signed Registry Agreements are listed below and the will soon be posted on the ICANN.org website.

  • International Domain Registry Pty. Ltd.’s شبكة , the Arabic for “Web or Network”
  • Core Association’s онлайн, Russian for “Online”
  • Core Association’s сайт, Russian for “Web site”
  • Spring Fields, LLC 游戏, Chinese for “Game”

Now domains will be even more targeted with local languages. As per a post by VentureBeat, ICANN is introducing new extensions in the Domain Name System which might include generic English words like .music, .law, .apple and so on. This will open doors for cyber squatters who are on the look out for opportunity to embezzle money on the name of an established brand. So beware of such scams and do not give out your personal and high security details like your Social Security Number (US residents), Permanent Account Number (Indian residents), credit card details or any such sensitive details to sites demanding for it.

So, to summarize the online marketing strategies for startups and established businesses, it is a cakewalk if you are aware of the market trends. Marketing your products or rather your brand online might be simple but it comes with a lot of baggage. You have to keep an eye for various things like intruders, squatters (who wants to make money on your brand name), etc. Always keep an eye for updates and news in this section so that you don’t miss on anything. This will help you build and maintain your brand.
